IOB Group Leader Dr. Andreas Keller appointed Associate Professor at the University of Basel

Warm congratulations to Andreas Keller, wo has been named Professor of Physiology at the Faculty of Medicine. He will take up his position at the Department of Biomedicine on August 1, 2024.

We are proud to announce that our esteemed group leader, Dr. Andreas Keller, has been appointed Associate Professor in the Department of Biomedicine at the University of Basel, effective August 1, 2024. This appointment is a testament to Keller’s exceptional contributions to neuroscience and visual research.

Andreas Keller, who has been a vital part of IOB since 2021, has made significant strides in understanding visual cortex plasticity and function. His groundbreaking work has been published in top-tier scientific journals including Science, Nature, and Neuron.

“We are delighted to see Andreas Keller’s talent and hard work recognized with this professorship. While we will miss his daily presence at IOB, we look forward to continued collaboration as he takes on this new role at the University of Basel”, says Botond Roska, Co-Director of IOB.

Andreas Keller’s journey in neuroscience began after completing his PhD in Neuroscience at ETH Zurich in 2015. His postdoctoral work at the University of California San Francisco from 2016 to 2020 set the stage for his innovative research at IOB. During his tenure at IOB, Keller has not only advanced the understanding of visual processing in the brain but has also mentored young scientists, fostering the next generation of researchers in the field.

“My time at IOB has been instrumental in shaping my research career. The support and collaborative environment here have allowed me to pursue cutting-edge research in visual neuroscience. I am excited to build on this foundation in my new role at the University of Basel, and I look forward to maintaining close ties with my colleagues at IOB”, says Keller.

While Andreas Keller will be moving to the University of Basel, IOB anticipates ongoing collaboration and joint research initiatives. His appointment strengthens the already robust relationship between IOB and the University of Basel, promising to accelerate advancements in the understanding of vision and brain function.
